Suppose you had a friend who had fairly narrow reading tastes and decided that they should broaden their horizons.   Please list here 10-15 "must read" books, books you think everyone should read at least once.  Then take your top three books and explain why you think these books are "must reads."

5 comments:

  1. 1. Little Women
    2. Lord of the Flies
    3. The Outsiders
    4. Petey
    5. The Hate U Give
    6. Unbroken
    7. The Book Thief
    8. Animal Farm
    9. Richest Man in Town
    10.Tuck Everlasting
    11.Of Mice and Men

Although Little Women, Lord of the Flies, and The Outsiders do not have that much in common, they all teach very valuable lessons. Little Women shows the younger generation of boys and girls the importance of independence and following your own dreams even if they do not match the expectations of others. Lord of the Flies demonstrates how important it is to listen to the needs and opinions of others before jumping to rash decisions. Lastly, The Outsiders teaches us how our own biases can hurt the people and strangers around us. This book is a few years old but is still relevant to our nations current situation. All of these books are must reads when it comes to learning from what you read!

    3. Little Women
    4. To Kill a Mockingbird
    5. The Book Thief

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a story about a boy in high school. He is telling his story through a means of letters, but we do not know who he is writing the letters to know. He is caught between trying to live his life and running from his past. It's a lesson that many of us struggle with today and can definitely relate to.
The Fault in Our Stars is a story of hope, love, and loss. The main character, Hazel, has terminal cancer, but has received treatment that has slowed the growth of her tumors. She meets and falls in love with Augustus who shows her how to have fun and live life again. I won't give away the ending, but a beloved character dies and we're forced to deal with the grief and feeling of hopelessness as all of us have or will face in the future. It does go to show, that you can move forward after a huge loss, and there is always hope.
The Book Thief, narrated by death, is a haunting tale of a girl during Nazi rule in World War II.
Little Women is based on the author's own life and explores the themes of love and death, war and peace, and the battle no matter the age of being true to oneself and family responsibility.
Based on all of my picks, I feel it is easy to see that love is a common theme. Whether it is a love for family, a person, a friend, or even reading books, love is a key not only in the stories we read, but in our own lives. -Reeba Sullivan

Everyone should read: Think and Grow Rich, The 10x Rule, and The Bible. Yes, The Bible! In fact, everyone should read The Bible once through yearly therefore reading it daily. Since, it’s the manual of life and we need our daily dose of encouragement, healing, wisdom, and the list goes on. Then next on the list is, Think and Grow Rich which will instill a burning desire to go after whatever it is you want in life. And finally, The 10X Rule which would instill in you to act upon whatever it is you want in life, but at 10X fold! So, these three together is a power pack and will get anyone off to a great start.
